Kylie Minogue comes to Bollywood in Mumbai

Sexy Kylie Minogue jets into Mumbai next month to record a song to AR Rahman’s music for Blue, a movie by debutant director Anthony D’ Souza.

Kylie, whose latest album has just won her a fifth Grammy nomination, will pocket $1 million for the gig. D’Souza told HT City, “I will be able to give an official quote on Thursday, once the contract is signed.” About Kylie’s fee, he said she was being paid what she deserved.

Kylie was not Rahman’s first choice. D’ Souza said there were many contenders for the spot, with reports that singer Madonna too had been asked. The pop diva apparently declined on account of her bitter divorce. Another contender, R&B star Rihanna, asked for too much money. Production house Ashtavinayak Cinevision finally settled for Minogue.

Fans needn’t suffer Kylie trying her hand at Jashne Bahara-like numbers; D’ Souza says the film will have disco-numbers that are up Kylie’s alley. “The score is simply sensational,” he adds.

With a budget of $28 million, this may well be Bollywood’s most expensive film. The film boasts a star cast — Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif.

Inspired by Hollywood underwater thrillers like The Deep and Jaws, D’ Souza says the movie is an action thriller.

“Three friends set out to find lost treasure, Sanjay and Akshay play fishermen based in the Bahamas and Zayed joins them on their treasure hunt. Lara plays Sanjay’s wife and Katrina will surprise all with her role,” added D’ Souza. In case Kylie and the star cast are not enough to get your adrenaline going, 40 real, untrained sharks guard the elusive treasure.
